Educationsense Camp - Workshops, group talks, home education merchandise, and a lot of friends having fun!
|
The idea of the virtual Camp was that a member
of your family checked to see what we were up to each day, and
then you worked out something
similar you could do together at home. Each day, I suggested some adapted activities you might want to try out with your family and friends. If you see something you
like now, why not give it a go!
Sunday
|
9-10am
|
At the Camp: Reiki and Relaxation with
Wendy
At Home: Take 20 minutes for yourself. Lie down with
some relaxing music and imagine yourself on a beach, listening to
the waves, and feel the warm sunshine relaxing every muscle in your
body. Ah, bliss...
|
|
10-11am
|
At the Camp: Morning Meeting
At Home: Why not have a family meeting to discuss what you're
all going to do today?
|
|
11am-12pm
|
At the Camp: First Aid Demonstration
with Maria
At Home: One major criticism I have of schools is that you
are not properly instructed on first aid matters and, indeed, how
you might actually save someone's life if you act quickly and
responsibly. Talk to your family about attending a first aid
course together |
|
11am-1pm
|
At the Camp: Negotiation with Wendy
At Home: From dealing with the LEA and asking a store manager
for your money back, to deciding who will make the tea and put the
rubbish out, try role playing different scenarios with other members
of your family. Make sure everyone has a chance to be the
'difficult party'! |
|
1-4pm
|
At the Camp: Craft Market
At Home: Roll up! Roll up! Got anything to sell?
Why not round it all up and make a few pounds at your local car boot
sale this weekend? |
|
2-4pm
|
At the Camp: Craft Activities with
Jenna
At Home: Jenna will be making a traditional Mexican
handicraft called "Eyes of God".
There is a wealth of things to make on the Internet. You could
look for something with a search engine, or come up with your own
ideas from scratch.
|
|
3-5pm
|
At the Camp: Treasure Hunt with Helen
and Annie
At Home: Split up into two teams. Each team hides some
'treasure' and makes a map. Then, swap maps and see who can
find the other team's treasure first!
|
|
4-5pm
|
At the Camp: Communal Meal
At Home: Fancy a barbecue? Why not invite some friends
over, or arrange to have the meal at their house if they have a
larger garden? Yum!
|
|
7-8pm
|
At the Camp: Story Time
At Home: Read a story to your children or, better still make one up between you. If the inspiration doesn't come, remember a great day you had together, or talk about life when they were babies.
|
|
8pm onwards |
At the Camp: Home Educators Entertain!
At Home: When was the last time you showed your children how
talented you are? Whether you play the bagpipes, or can touch
the end of your nose with your tongue, get everyone up on their feet
for a night to remember!

The attendees were able to send
virtual
Postcards from the real Camp to those joining us on the website from home. Did they Wish You Were Here, or
Wish They Were With You?!!

Sit down with a cup of herbal tea and read Sunday's edition of
The
Magicland Gazette, our Camp newsletter. It may be old news,
but it's no fish and chips wrapper!

Take a look at the pictures in The Gallery. Nearly all
of them were taken by the younger members of our community.
A member of the public came to the gate and
read our poster, which explains that we are home educators running
a camp together. He turned to Wendy and said:
"So none of your children go to school? How do they
get to socialise?"
