The Educationsense Gathering 2002 Gallery - See who did what and where!
Here we are in The Magic Hat Café. The idea behind the café was that, during the Morning Meeting, everyone could help decide what we would have for dinner. Peter was then usually the person who went to the shops to buy the ingredients, and then it was cooked for us in the evening. The Magic Teapot was left on the side, and people who ate in the café were asked to make a contribution - whatever they could manage - towards the cost of the meal. Breakfast and dinner was provided, plus squash, tea, coffee and hot chocolate throughout the day, thanks to a big water container, and a tea urn with hot water on tap.

The Hero  Shaf cooked lots of food for us, catering for all diets. He even provided food on some of the days when he had to go to work!

As you can see from the picture, the ingredients looked fantastic. Imagine what the finished masterpieces tasted like! Wish you were here?

The Heroine  Here's Helen, making some gnocchi. Anyone who gets their hands mucky in the name of good food is okay in my books!

Actually, when we were dismantling everything after the camp ended, several people mentioned that it seemed strange to walk into the café without seeing Helen there.
The 'Shroom Lady  Every couple of days, Claudia took groups out to hunt for mushrooms growing wild in the forest. The next morning, she would treat us all to mushroom omelettes for breakfast, made with eggs laid by Buffy's chickens. Ah, what a wonderful way to start the day.

Unfortunately for me, my younger daughter also liked the omelettes and used to eat my portion faster than I could! She was a faddy eater until she met Claudia and her husband, Shaf.

Bright Dishes?  Observe, ladies and gentlemen - it is June doing the washing-up.  There were a few people who kindly did a spot of cleaning, but June, in dark glasses and dressed in black, either does it in style, or grieves over the experience! <chuckle>

Observe also, the little one who, obviously having genetically inherited her mother's passion for plates, fiddles with the precarious wet crockery pile.
Hot Dog!  This is the hippy from whom several quotes were noted for The Magicland Gazette. Chris helped out with the setting up of just about everything, from putting up the marquee to precisely measuring out Canehenge. What a star! He also single-handedly converted that coach into a family home. Have some onions with that hotdog, Chris, you deserve it...!

Stop That Man!  But oh, what is this? Looks like Chris has got his eye on the vegetarian kebabs as well! Lizzie has turned and realised what is happening, but I fear she will be too late.

By the way, Tula and Lizzie trekked down from another camp in the Peak District in order to be with us. Inside Lizzie's horse box trailer, she had everything from a party tent to a load of tables. She even provided one of the barbecues. Thanks so much, Lizzie. So many people brought things with them or offered their time; you all made the camp the success it was.
Day Tripper  Like Isobel, lots of families came for a day visit. That said, quite of few of them ended up coming back for more unplanned day visits, and one family even rushed home to get their camping equipment!

Me And My Girl  Helen's husband, Andy was one of a number of partners who either left the site to go to work during the day, or left for a few days of work to return in order to unwind again, and pick up their families at the end of the week.

The little girl wearing the matching stripes is their youngest daughter, and she always smiles like this. She made me so happy that I used to sing a little tune to her every time I saw her, and no, she didn't get sick of it!
Craft Table  Because the café shared the same marquee as the workshops, there was usually something to do if anyone came in feeling like doing some crafts while nibbling a snack.

Birthday Girl  The camp was full of surprises, and this young lady didn't see hers coming until the lights were off and everyone was singing to her. Jenna's husband, Graham, also celebrated a birthday while he was with us and, of course, there was the Handfasting and the Fiesta.

No matter what happened around the camp, everyone came to the café to celebrate, from the wine after the Handfasting to the champagne of the last evening, and from the birthday cake here to the major choc attack (see The Magicland Gazette) Shan provided one day simply because she felt like it!
Holistic Aromatherapist
Lyn had some wonderful, inexpensive products on her stall during Market Day, which was held in the cafe. Lyn did a lot for me personally during the camp, from giving me a quick hug when I looked tired, to fetching me a glass of wine when I looked stressed. Thank you, my dear friend.

"Roll Up! Roll Up!"  These stall holders were selling homemade greetings cards decorated with pressed flowers.
