Friends As well as using the HE Clutter List for friendly support, you could also consider inviting your 'real world' friends to help you. It is becoming increasingly common for groups of friends to meet and de-clutter each other's houses (depending on how well they know each other, of course!). It often seems easier to advise other people than to take your own advice, and a close friend understands you well enough to realise what you are trying to achieve. Friends often come up with solutions you hadn't thought of. In case you haven't yet joined, why not give the HE Clutter List a try? Selling Stuff Car Boot Sales can be a quick, easy, and even fun, way of selling your unwanted items. Generally held in fields or school playgrounds, sellers pay a fee to someone on the gate, drive in, and sell either from the back of the car or, more usually, on a table they bring along. On selling at Car Boot Sales, Janet, an HE Clutter List subscriber, says: "Something waterproof to spread out on the floor might be a good idea, tables don't hold much, you can pack the goods in
boxes and then use the upside down boxes as display areas. A plank across two boxes works well. A big sheet of polythene can be useful
to spread over your goods if it rains. It is always a good idea to have plenty of change as you can guarantee the first customers will
only have £20 notes. A bum bag to keep your money in, and make sure you lock your handbag or whatever valuables into the car - they have
been known to go missing whilst you are kept busy on the stall. Carolyn is also a member of the HE Clutter List: "One thing I can contribute - take along or do it before - price tags so people don't have to ask you about every little thing. And maybe figure out ahead of time how low you'll go on combined purchases etc... And definitely take along another person, if possible, to watch for thieves. They happen at car boot sales, garage sales, everywhere." |
